Building a strong team in Brown Dust 2 is more complex than just picking high-rarity characters. Because characters can equip multiple costumes—each with its own skills—the best units are often those with several strong costumes, allowing them to rotate abilities without downtime. Elemental advantages also play a huge role in combat, so don't expect to clear every stage with a single team. Adaptability is key.
This tier list focuses strictly on PvE content—Story Mode, Fiend Hunts, Guild Bosses, Events, and Tower challenges. PvP is a completely different meta, where low SP cost and fast skills reign supreme. For instance, Granhildr may be a C-tier unit in PvE but becomes SS-tier in PvP. However, since PvP is only a small portion of the game, we won’t be ranking characters based on that here.
Units in this list are evaluated relative to others performing the same role—so tanks are judged against tanks, supports against supports, and DPS units are compared within their element (e.g., Fire DPS vs. other Fire DPS). This should help you understand both how strong a character is and how much priority you should give to maxing their costumes.
Assumptions:
- Characters are ranked assuming +5 enhancement, all bonds active, and signature gear equipped.
Tier Explanations
SS Tier – Core Units
These are must-have characters. If you can, prioritize getting and maxing them to +5. They’re often central to team comps, enabling other units to shine. Interestingly, many of the best units here are supports—which shows just how vital utility is in Brown Dust 2’s PvE meta.
S Tier – Top Performers
These units are the best in their class. Strongest DPS units in their element, top-tier buffers, debuffers, chainers, and supports. If you have them, they’re always worth investing in.
A Tier – Strong Picks
Reliable and powerful characters that can carry you far when properly built. Definitely worth leveling and maxing their costumes, even if they don’t quite reach S-tier impact they still really strong.
B Tier – Situational but Solid
These are useful units, often with older or filler costumes used during cooldown gaps. Some are aging, but still serve a purpose in well-built teams. Not top-tier, but still very viable.
C Tier – Niche or PvP-Only
Extremely niche picks or units that struggle to contribute meaningfully in PvE. Granhildr and Leclise are exceptions—they dominate PvP, but are weak in PvE.
D Tier – Not Recommended
Generally poor performers in PvE. Low damage, utility, or survivability. Best to avoid using them unless they get buffed in the future (They won't).
